Cristina Rios, Instructional Lead for Physical Education, Health & Wellness


Cristina Rios is an Instructional Lead for Physical Education, Health and Wellness for Community School District 9 with over 10 years of experience in the NYC Public Schools system. Cristina graduated from SUNY Cortland with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and a Master’s Degree in Health Education and Educational Leadership, from Lehman College. Cristina began her teaching career in District 10 as a Physical Education teacher. She later transferred to district 9 as the founding Physical Education teacher and Wellness coordinator at PS 311, Lucero Elementary School.

In 2015, Cristina transitioned to the Office of School Wellness Programs as a Physical Education Instructional Coach, under the PE Works Initiative. Through that role, she supported Physical Education across various districts of the Bronx. In her current role, Cristina continues to provide pedagogical support to all Physical Education teachers and administrators in Community School District 9. Along with ensuring that students in the district are receiving high quality Physical and Health Education, she also supports schools in prioritizing physical activity, as well as wellness initiatives throughout the school community.

Cristina is passionate about children and hopes to cultivate a district of physically literate students.
